Finally, after all the bad news flying around for 2 years, I've gotten tired of it.
Every day I hear my parents talk about people that died, idiots that spread COVID, anti-vaxxers, trumpers, people who are suddenly homeless, governments that make poor decisions, new variants..., you name it. It's all they talk about*. Day in, day out, there's just a constant stream of sad, depressing news. Every second is a new horrible event. In fact, as I'm writing this, they're talking about a stupid parent knowingly who sent their COVID positive child to day care. I can't stand it! It's all I hear**.
Another thing is listing off COVID numbers for the US and Canada. Every night my mom says, "<insert case count here>? Things are really bad. That's worse than yesterday." I know it's bad! You don't need to tell me! It's always the same stuff.
It's like the news. It's all the same story about people not taking COVID seriously, but with the names, places, and dates changed. I don't get how people can willingly scroll through that horrible news every day.
And it's not like I can go outside to escape it. It's all anyone talks about. Small talk isn't about how the weather is anymore. It's about how many new cases of COVID there are. I talk to most of my friends and it's just more of the same. How about I go online? Same exact thing. But online a billion people can tell you about the newest disasters at the same time. It's worse.
These things don't seem like much by themselves, but when you combine them it can make you want to scream.
*they talk about other things too, but it feels like bad news is the highlight.
**I swear, I could make a recording of my day and you'd get 4 newspapers full of news.
Also sorry for the lack of editing. I'm too tired to go and look over it again.
