Anbernic is back with yet another retro handheld device. The upcoming RG28XX is another console sporting the quad-core H700 chip of the company's recent RG35XX 2024 Edition, but bears a compact, pocketable form factor.

While the device is not available for sale yet, Anbernic has provided the specs of the RG28XX:

Ahead of its sale to the public, the company has also shared an unboxing video which also includes some of the device's emulation performance:

UPDATE:

Sales for the Anbernic RG28XX is now live on the official Anbernic store. For the first 48 hours, the handheld will retail for $43.99 USD and after that, the price of the device will be at $47.99 USD.

These little things will be doing PS2 games soon enough. The price to performance ratio is getting crazy.
Some already do tbf, albeit probably not Anbernic's. On the higher end something like the Odin can do pretty much all of the PS2 library upscaled. I use a KTR1, which is a good chunk smaller (4.5in screen) and that can manage some PS2 and GameCube, though definitely not all. I'm really waiting for a handheld that can get something like what the Odin is packing in a smaller form factor. That'll really win the day for me.

Hopefully they will make one with a rg280v screen size and form factor because the 280v is getting a little long in the tooth, not to mention being MIPS based.

Maybe I'm too old and my eyes are too "greedy" but I really can't stand those 2.8" devices. Even 3.5 is too small for me (but unfortunately most devices have that display size).

Would be nice if it was able to emulate cable link/wireless adapter for GBA & Game Boy Color games wirelessly or connected to each other with cable.
I think you can do this with some handhelds actually, though it's definitely not as seamless as I'd like:

It's a shame none of these companies want to just throw a lot of time into a really solid OS capable of things like that. If there were a handheld that had really seamless link cable support and similar I'd be all over it, though I do appreciate it's likely pretty complex.

Yeah it seems like these devices are made for tiny giant ants with great eyesight. cant believe they regressed in screen size.

I've seen people play N64 on it, but if they don't support those systems it's because the handheld doesn't have an analogue stick.

I think 2.8 inches is a little too small. I am 40 this year and my eyes struggle even on the RG405M. Maybe this is for the younger folks.
I'm almost 40 and I bought the RG405M for this sole reason, because it has 4 inches while literally all other handhelds had 3.5 and still I prefer my hacked OLED Switch when I'm at home due to the larger screen.
The RG405M is okay though when I'm outside the house. :D
However I would in no way deal with 2.8 inches ever again. Have the Miyoo Mini for uniqueness and collection purposes but that's about it.

The problem is there aren't too many devices 4:3 devices between 4 to 5 inches. Shouldn't manufacturers already understand that those who are into retro gaming now are in their late 30s or early 40s now? Haha
