Some ports like Resident Evil 5, Ni No Kuni, have poor audio quality on the Switch compared to the PS3 for example

Could it be because the audio files are compressed in the Switch version or is there some setting that could improve it?

PS3 games also have compressed audio. Difference exists because usually on Switch they are using included with SDK opus encoder that is really bad (it looks like it tries to compress data as much as possible, not looking at how big bitrate you set. So it may look like file gets bigger, but in fact all of that additional space is empty). A certain guy wrote in one hour a program that makes nintendo opus files based on libopus and it's much much better at even lower bitrates since it always tries to use whole given space. I am reusing it to make audio encoder for some games.
